Aspartame

Aspartame is one of the most extensively studied food additives in history and is considered safe to consume in normal amounts while breastfeeding. It breaks down into phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and methanol before being absorbed — very little reaches breast milk. The one exception: mothers with PKU (phenylketonuria) must avoid aspartame.

Mothers with phenylketonuria (PKU) cannot metabolize phenylalanine and must strictly avoid aspartame. For all other breastfeeding mothers, consumption within normal dietary ranges poses no known risk to their baby.
