Antacid (Magnesium Hydroxide / Maalox)

Magnesium hydroxide antacids (Maalox, Milk of Magnesia) are safe during breastfeeding. They work locally in the GI tract with minimal systemic absorption.

Magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide antacids are not significantly absorbed from the GI tract and do not reach breast milk in meaningful amounts. They're safe for short-term heartburn relief. Milk of Magnesia also functions as a mild osmotic laxative at higher doses. Safe for postpartum use.
