Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe vera juice — especially whole leaf preparations — should be used with caution while breastfeeding. The inner leaf gel in small amounts is lower risk, but whole leaf preparations contain anthraquinones that can act as strong laxatives.

Avoid whole-leaf preparations; small amounts of inner-leaf gel products with low anthraquinone content may be lower risk
Aloe vera juice made from the inner leaf (gel) in small amounts is generally considered lower risk. However, whole leaf aloe preparations contain aloin and other anthraquinones — potent laxatives that may pass into breast milk and cause diarrhea in nursing infants. LactMed and Infant Risk Center recommend avoiding aloe vera juice supplements during breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data. Topical aloe on skin is fine.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
