Afrin (Oxymetazoline Nasal Spray)

Afrin nasal spray is safe during breastfeeding because it works locally with very low systemic absorption. Limit use to 3 days to avoid rebound congestion.

No more than 3 consecutive days
Oxymetazoline (Afrin) nasal spray works locally in the nasal passages and has very low systemic absorption — much lower than oral decongestants like pseudoephedrine. It does not carry the same milk supply risk as pseudoephedrine. However, limit use to 3 days maximum to avoid rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa). A safe, effective short-term option.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
